Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates respond with a flat no to the idea of relocating Palestinians out of Gaza and relaunch the two-state solution

Donald Trump floated the idea, but the response was a resounding ‘no thanks’. Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates bluntly rejected the idea of deporting the Palestinians out of Gaza, reiterating instead the need for a diplomatic solution.

At the Cairo summit, the five Arab countries approved a joint declaration in which they pledge ‘full and continued support for the continued existence of the Palestinian population on their own land’, a clear message to those who think the issue can be resolved by forced relocation.

Trump, known for his creative (and often unfeasible) solutions, will therefore have to rethink his strategy: this time, his proposal has not found fertile ground even among the US’ historical allies in the region.
