Israel, waiting for approval of hostage deal with Hamas

The executive meeting proceeds to the bitter end, the final decision could come in the night

Sources close to the Israeli government report that the meeting of the executive, convened to decide on the approval of the agreement with Hamas for the release of the hostages, will certainly continue beyond 11pm (local time).

The discussion, which began several hours ago, is still ongoing and could last well into the night. According to the same sources, the ministers seem to be leaning towards approving the agreement, which had already been approved by the security cabinet in the early afternoon.

The agreement provides for a temporary truce during which Hamas will release a number of hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. This step is considered crucial for both the humanitarian aspects and the political and security implications in the region.

The government’s decision will be closely followed internationally, given the importance of the agreement for the reduction of tensions in the region and the fate of the hostages.
