Marine Le Pen criticises Premier Michel Barnier’s budget law and government. The result of the vote in a moment

The debate on the no-confidence motions against Premier Michel Barnier’s government is underway in the National Assembly, with voting scheduled for tonight at around 6.45pm. Government sources have confirmed that Barnier will meet his government ministers in Matignon during the vote, and then return to the Assembly for the announcement of the results around 8.15pm/20.30pm

Marine Le Pen, speaking during the debate, accused the government of having ‘prevented any concessions’ and of having brought the country to a stalemate. The Rassemblement National (Rn) leader described this government as ‘ephemeral’ and insisted on the need to stop a budget law that she considers lacking vision and direction.

Le Pen added that the French institutions had forced her party to collaborate with the extreme left, although ‘it was not an easy choice’. According to the Rn leader, the budget law, which excludes measures to stop uncontrolled immigration, represents a failure of the government’s promises, perpetuating ‘technocratic choices’ imposed by President Macron.

The no-confidence to the government promises to be a crucial moment in French politics, with potential repercussions on the future executive and the legislature.
