Cecilia Sala, the Italian journalist arrested on 20 December in Iran and held in solitary confinement in Evin prison, is on her way back to Italy. The plane taking her home has already left Tehran, thanks to an intense diplomatic and intelligence operation.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed deep gratitude to those who made the journalist’s release possible. An official note from Palazzo Chigi reads: ‘Thanks to intense work on diplomatic and intelligence channels, our compatriot has been released by the Iranian authorities and is returning to Italy’.
