Military base in Georgia locked down for hours. Investigation underway, Trump informed

Five US soldiers were wounded in a shooting at Fort Stewart base in the state of Georgia. The US Armed Forces confirmed the arrest of a suspect, without providing details on their identity or motive.

The alert for a ‘possible shooting’ was triggered at 10:56 a.m. local time, forcing the entire facility, located about 70 kilometers from Savannah, into lockdown. Security operations continued until the threat was neutralized.

Suspect arrested, no active threat

The military command announced that the shooter had been arrested and that “there is no active threat.” The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The five wounded soldiers were treated at the scene and then transported to the hospital.

According to NBC News, the lockdown was gradually lifted after the suspect’s arrest. No information has been released at this time about any links the shooter may have had to the base or any previous suspicious behavior.

Trump informed, Kemp: “Shocking tragedy”

President Donald Trump has been informed of the incident, as confirmed by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt on X: “We are monitoring the situation.”

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp also commented on the incident, writing that he is “in close contact with authorities” and calling the shooting a “shocking tragedy.”

Fort Stewart: strategic center for the US Army

Fort Stewart is home to the Third Infantry Division and is one of the US Army’s main bases, with over 10,000 soldiers, families, and civilian personnel. It is a hub for the training of active and reserve units.

The incident has raised new concerns about security within US military installations, which have been the scene of other attacks in the past. Federal and military authorities continue to monitor the situation.
