The US president is considering bilateral meetings and a three-way summit. Moscow proposes a conditional air truce

US President Donald Trump has said he is willing to meet with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky in an attempt to initiate a peace process to end the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, who emphasized that Moscow had expressed interest in a direct meeting with the American leader.
The possibility of a meeting was discussed in a phone call between Trump and Zelensky, which was also attended by NATO’s new secretary general Mark Rutte and the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Finland, according to a high-level Ukrainian source.
Trump: “Great progress made with Putin”
Trump confirmed the ongoing diplomatic activity on Truth: “My special envoy Steve Witkoff has just had a very productive meeting with Putin. Great progress has been made.” After the face-to-face meeting between Witkoff and the Russian leader, Trump updated “some European allies,” reiterating: “Everyone agrees that this war must end. We will work towards this in the coming days.”
According to the New York Times, Trump told several European leaders that he wants to meet with Putin as early as next week, and then organize a three-way summit with Zelensky.
Moscow confirms: “Useful and constructive meeting”
Positive confirmation has come from the Kremlin. Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, described the meeting as “useful and constructive,” adding that Russia had “received some signals from Trump and sent others.” The talks also included a discussion on the prospects for a US-Russia strategic partnership.
Zelensky: “We need honest and lasting peace”
In a post published on X, Zelensky confirmed the phone call with Trump after Witkoff’s visit to Moscow. The Ukrainian president, returning from an inspection of the brigades in the Sumy region, reiterated: “The war must end honestly. We need lasting and solid peace.” No specific details were provided, but Zelensky thanked his European partners for their support and reiterated that Ukraine will continue to defend its independence.
Bloomberg: Moscow considers an air truce as a concession to Trump
According to an exclusive report by Bloomberg, the Kremlin is considering a limited air truce as a conciliatory gesture toward Trump. The idea would be to suspend missile and drone strikes, provided that Kiev also respects the truce. According to Kremlin-linked analyst Sergei Markov, the measure would represent a kind of “political gift” to Trump, useful for strengthening his diplomatic position.
Sanctions still on the way
Despite the optimism, a White House official has made it clear that secondary sanctions against Moscow will still be implemented by Friday, a sign that the US line will not change in the immediate future, while keeping the door open for dialogue.
