The Kremlin confirms that there are no orders to extend the war pause. Kiev and Moscow accuse each other of violations

The Easter truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin will expire at midnight today, Moscow time, without any further extensions. This was reported by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to the Russian news agency Tass, specifying that ‘there have been no further indications’ from the president to extend the temporary cessation of hostilities, which came into effect at 6pm on 19 April.

In recent hours, Kiev and Moscow have mutually accused each other of violating the truce. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia had carried out 46 attacks and 901 bombings today alone. For its part, the Kremlin claims that the Ukrainian armed forces hit Russian positions in occupied areas of eastern Ukraine.

Yesterday, Zelensky had called on Putin to turn the Easter ceasefire into a 30-day cessation of hostilities, as requested by the US, saying that such an extended period could represent ‘a real opportunity for peace’. According to the Ukrainian leader, ‘30 hours are enough for headlines, but not for building trust’.
