After the download block in January, the app can be downloaded again. The president opens up the possibility of further extensions

TikTok is again available for download in the US on the Apple and Google stores. The Chinese-owned platform, which has around 170 million US users, had been removed on 19 January due to tensions surrounding the National Security Act, designed to ban its use if ByteDance did not relinquish control of the app.

However, President Donald Trump, on his first day of his second term, decided to grant an extension until 5 April, hinting that there could be more if necessary. The app was therefore available again and can now be downloaded again for new users or for those who have changed devices and need to reinstall it.

‘There are a lot of people interested in TikTok and I hope to be able to come to an agreement,‘ Trump said from the White House, responding to reporters’ questions about the ongoing negotiations to sell the app. ‘People have realised it’s very popular, we’ll probably have to get China’s approval, but there are a lot of people interested,’ he added, opening up the possibility of new negotiations.
