The King of Jordan in audience in London on the eve of the 26th anniversary of his accession to the throne
King Abdullah II of Jordan was received today by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. This was announced by the British Royal Palace, sharing a photo of the meeting on ‘X’. The last time the two monarchs had seen each other was last November, when Charles awarded the Jordanian monarch the honour of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order for his 25 years of reign.
The visit comes on the eve of the 26th anniversary of King Abdullah’s accession to the throne, which took place on 7 February 1999 after the death of his father. Relations between the two royal families are historically close: Charles has visited Jordan five times since 1965 and the Jordanian royals attended the coronation of the British ruler in 2023.
Prince William and Jordanian Crown Prince Al Hussein also share a special bond: both trained at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst and share a passion for football. In 2018 they were photographed together watching the England-Panama match at the World Cup.
