The US president announces legal action against NewsCorp and Rupert Murdoch over an article about an alleged obscene letter sent to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to sue the Wall Street Journal, accusing the financial newspaper of spreading ‘false and defamatory’ news about a letter he allegedly wrote in 2003 to financier Jeffrey Epstein, containing vulgar phrases and an obscene drawing.

The article, published by the WSJ, refers to a letter that was allegedly part of a collection of birthday wishes for Epstein’s 50th birthday. The newspaper claims to have seen the letter, describing it as accompanied by a drawing of female breasts and a signature “Donald” in place of pubic hair. The typewritten text ends with the phrase: ‘Happy birthday, and may every day be another wonderful secret’.

Trump reacted vehemently on his Truth Social platform: “I have never drawn anything in my life. It’s not my language, it’s not my words”, stating that he “will sue the Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp and Rupert Murdoch shortly”.

Meanwhile, he has asked former Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all documents related to the investigation into the late Epstein. According to Trump, this would put an end to allegations of a cover-up by his administration.

Bondi responded shortly afterwards on X: ‘President Trump, we are ready to ask the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.’

The case promises new tensions between the American press and the White House chief, who reiterated: ‘This scam, orchestrated by the Democrats, must end immediately!’
