Documents relating to Prince Harry’s US visa application are to be made public by Tuesday. The decision comes after months of pressure from the Heritage Foundation and concerns possible omissions about drug use

US Judge Carl Nichols ruled that documents related to Prince Harry’s US visa application must be made public by Tuesday. This order follows a Freedom of Information (Foi) request made months ago to the Department of Homeland Security in Washington. The case revolves around the possibility that the Duke of Sussex may have withheld some crucial information in the visa process, in particular concerning his past drug use.

The duke’s life in the US

Prince Harry, who was born and raised in the UK, has been living in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children since 2020, following their decision to separate from the British royal family. The move to the United States has attracted a lot of media interest, especially because of the new revelations the prince has made in his autobiography.

The interest of the Heritage Foundation

The request to view Prince Harry’s visa documents was submitted by the Heritage Foundation, a US conservative think-tank. The foundation believes that the prince may have concealed his history of drug use when applying for the visa, thus avoiding the risk of the application being rejected. The concern arose after the publication of the controversial autobiography ‘Spare’, in which Harry admitted to using cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.

A change of course

Initially, Judge Nichols had ruled that the matter should remain private, protecting Prince Harry’s privacy. However, following renewed pressure from the Heritage Foundation, the judge changed his position, ordering that the documents be made public. This development could have significant repercussions, as it could call into question the Duke’s visa process.

Possible consequences

Should any omissions or discrepancies emerge between the statements made by Harry in the visa form and what he admitted in his autobiography, legal complications could arise. However, it remains to be seen what the actual consequences of this decision will be, as the content of the documents is still unknown at the moment.
