Paris summit on Ukraine as U.S. and Russia open dialogue in Riyadh
Russian raids in Odessa continue. Macron and Scholz discuss European security and Ukraine
As Russian raids continue to target the port city of Odessa, causing severe disruption to the population, a new summit on Ukraine and security will be held in Paris today, with the participation of European and non-European leaders. France and other European countries reiterate the need for a common approach in the face of the threat posed by Russia.
Meanwhile, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Russia have begun an official dialogue, ahead of a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Ukraine.
In Odessa, Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov reported on Telegram a “massive enemy attack,” which left several residential areas without heating, water, and electricity. Numerous schools and homes were hit, and at least one person was hospitalized.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who attended the summit, reiterated that Russia poses an existential threat to Europe, citing cyber attacks and migration pressures. He also stressed the possibility of dialogue with Putin, should it be helpful to future negotiations.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also declared his support for Ukraine, rejecting any assumption of peace imposed through diktats.
