Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists warns: never so close to nuclear disaster
The symbolic time between the world and midnight, the representation of a nuclear cataclysm, has shrunk further in the past year. According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, never in history has humanity been so close to the danger of an atomic disaster.
“This is the closest the world has come to midnight,” said Daniel Holtz, president of the organization. Last year, the clock marked 90 seconds to the global abyss, but rising international tensions and the lack of significant progress in reducing nuclear arsenals have made the picture even worse.
The Apocalypse Clock, established in 1947, is a symbolic warning aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of nuclear weapons use, climate change and destabilizing technologies.
