US, Castaic fire: more than 31 thousand residents evacuated in north Los Angeles
Flames hit Los Angeles and Ventura counties, more than 4,000 firefighters in action
A vast fire broke out in the hills near Castaic in northern Los Angeles County, quickly spreading to neighbouring Ventura County. The event led to the evacuation of more than 31 thousand people, while another 23 thousand residents are under evacuation notices.
The authorities’ response
Anthony Marrone, chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, assured that there is currently no damage to structures. The response to the fire involves over 4,000 firefighters, supported by a major air and ground operation. ‘The situation remains complex and the fire is difficult to contain, but the response is robust,’ Marrone told a press conference.
More favourable weather conditions
According to Sheila Kelliher, Captain of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, weather conditions are currently more favourable than the fires of previous weeks. Calm winds are allowing helicopters to make water jets even during the night, a key measure to limit the spread of the flames.
Authorities remain on high alert, with the fire continuing to pose a significant threat to the area. Efforts continue to protect communities and ensure the safety of residents.
