Indian city plunged into darkness after a series of explosions and activation of sirens. Islamabad announces it will not encourage any de-escalation as cross-border bombing continues

The northern Indian city of Jammu plunged into darkness after a series of explosions heard in the night and the activation of warning sirens. This was reported by official Indian sources, indicating a deepening crisis between India and Pakistan along the border line.

According to authorities, the detonations are part of ongoing bombings by the Pakistani army in response to Operation Sindoor, launched by New Delhi in recent days against suspected terrorist hideouts on Pakistani soil.

“From where I am, intermittent sounds of explosions are now heard, probably from heavy artillery,” Prime Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on X, confirming the gravity of the situation in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Islamabad is turning up the heat. Pakistani armed forces spokesman General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said his country does not intend to encourage any de-escalation: “With the damage India has caused on our side, they should be hit. So far we have protected ourselves, but they will get a response in the time frame we have set.”

The situation along the Line of Control remains highly volatile, with artillery exchanges, armed drones and missile attacks reported on both sides. Indian authorities have not yet confirmed the death toll or damage after the latest blasts in Jammu, while the entire area remains on high alert and largely without power.
