Trump Criticises Putin and Comments on UK’s Planned Recognition of Palestine
US President Donald Trump condemns Russian actions in Ukraine and discusses peace roadmap with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer
“I am truly disappointed in Putin.” These were the words repeatedly emphasised by US President Donald Trump during a press conference at Chequers alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “I am really disappointed… we’ll see how it ends,” Trump admitted, recalling that he has resolved “seven wars,” but not yet the one he considered the simplest due to his privileged relationship with the Russian leader. Trump added that he believes if oil prices fall, “Putin will be forced to withdraw” from the war in Ukraine. “He will have no choice. He will exit that war,” he stated.
Trump emphasised that Putin “is killing many people and losing even more.” He reiterated that the conflict would never have erupted had he been president: “Millions of people have died in that war, millions of souls, and they are not American soldiers.” “Soldiers are being killed at levels unseen since the Second World War. I feel obliged to resolve this situation for that reason,” he added.
Recalling his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, Trump stressed that the conflict “could have escalated into a third world war.” “That was a war that could have become a third world war… and it would have been a disgrace,” he said.
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that “over 700,000 Russian soldiers are fighting at the front” in Ukraine.
Starmer: “Recognition of Palestine within Peace Agreement Context”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the recognition of Palestine, which the United Kingdom is preparing to announce, must be understood within the framework of “a peace plan” and a two-state solution. Starmer explained that he privately discussed the matter with Donald Trump today, finding himself “absolutely in agreement on the need for peace and a roadmap because the situation in Gaza is intolerable.” Trump added, however, “I do not agree with Starmer on this,” referring to the recognition of Palestine, noting that it is “indeed one of our few disagreements.”
