Trump says Iran “never really wanted an agreement” after joint US-Israel attack

Hours after the operation with Israel, the US president claimed Tehran repeatedly pulled back from deals and warned of long-term consequences for its nuclear and missile programs

Trump says Iran “never really wanted an agreement” after joint US-Israel attack. Speaking to Israeli Channel 12 just hours following the operation, President Donald Trump asserted that Tehran “came close to an agreement several times and then pulled back,” leading him to conclude that Iran “never really wanted an agreement.”

The president told reporters that he asked his team to review Iran’s actions over the past 25 years, claiming that “every month they did something negative—they blew something up and killed someone.” Trump emphasized that without the June raid, known as Operation Midnight Hammer, “Iran would already have nuclear weapons.”

Trump also confirmed a “good phone call” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that “we are on the same page.” He outlined multiple options for the ongoing campaign, which he referred to as Operation Epic Fury. “I can extend it and take control of everything, or I can conclude it in a few days and warn Tehran not to rebuild,” Trump said. He added that any recovery would “take them years” following the strike.

According to Trump, the operation is designed to create long-lasting consequences for Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. “Either way, it will take several years for them to recover from this attack,” he told Axios during a five-minute phone interview from Mar-a-Lago.
