I met her on social networks and was struck by her way of telling the secrets of Ligurian cuisine that is so pure, honest and unadulterated that her recipes are within the reach of anyone who wants to put even a modicum of willpower into learning the art of taste. Her name is Renata Briano, from Genoa, a graduate in natural sciences, so passionate about cooking that she proposes herself as a Food Blogger, but in a different way from the panorama we encounter on the web every day. An interweaving of values, perhaps partly due to her training, does not only satisfy the culinary subject, but refers to the environment, territories, perfumes, beauty, customs, the lack of time with which each of us is forced to struggle, the art of recycling, and savings.

Yes, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money to put food on a family’s table, certain aspects must be weighed up, such as the quality of the products, the priority in cooking what perishes more quickly, seasonality, the search for producers in the nearby countryside. In short, Renata wants us to be aware of many facets but what seals her mission is that simplicity, that serenity such that meeting her becomes a pleasant moment of the day.

You can do it too, look for the blog ‘Our Politics in the Kitchen’, here you can field test my words. Renata has also written a beautiful book in two languages, Italian and English, which I recommend you read, entitled La Liguria in cucina (Liguria in the kitchen). It is not the usual cookbook but the realisation of a dream, where you can navigate through the pages finding glossaries, anecdotes, curiosities, simple explanations of recipes with videos and tables that help you face and overcome the challenge in the kitchen.

Those who know Liguria also know all its colours, its scents, those typical dishes that stamp the soul and always bring back the desire to return there to relive those emotions. This book brings with it some of these marvels, it is a journey among the beauties.
