Two people were found dead in the undercarriage compartment of a JetBlue plane that landed in Fort Lauderdale. Investigations are ongoing to determine how they entered the plane

A tragic discovery shook the JetBlue flight that departed from New York (JFK airport) and landed in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Florida. Two lifeless bodies were found in the landing gear compartment of the Airbus A320, a discovery made during a routine inspection following the plane’s arrival.

The airline JetBlue confirmed the incident, stating that two people were found dead in the undercarriage compartment last night. The company added that the identity of the victims and how they managed to gain access to the compartment are still under investigation. ‘This is a heartbreaking situation and we are committed to working closely with the authorities to support the investigation,’ the company spokesperson said.

According to Cbs News, the flight had departed JFK at 8:20 p.m. in freezing and sub-zero outside temperatures. The plane arrived in Fort Lauderdale slightly late, at 23:03. The temperatures at altitude are extremely low and the undercarriage compartment is neither pressurised nor heated, making survival impossible for those hiding there.

Local authorities, including the Broward Sheriff’s homicide squad, are trying to reconstruct how the two people could have ended up in the trolley compartment. Autopsies, which will be carried out by the coroner’s office, will be crucial in determining the cause of death of the victims.
