William and Kate invited to Washington for the inauguration of the new US president, signs of a future with more royal responsibilities
In 2025, Prince William is set to assume an increasingly prominent role within the British royal family, joining his father, King Charles, in many of his official engagements. The first major event will be on 20 January, when William, together with his wife Catherine, will attend the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in Washington.
This transition to more royal responsibilities became evident as early as last month, during William’s meeting with Trump at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. On that occasion, the Prince of Wales represented his father, who was absent due to health problems. According to Fox News, William left a very good impression and received international praise for his effectiveness in the role.
For Princess Kate, 2025 also represents a return to public life after a difficult period. The princess faced a battle with cancer, but according to sources close to the couple, she is recovering with renewed vigour. Kate has already resumed her work with charity initiatives, which were suspended in 2023 due to the disease, and is preparing to return full-time to her royal commitments.
According to Fox News, William and Kate’s invitation to President Trump’s inauguration is a clear sign that the royal couple is getting more and more space to take a leading role, especially considering the advanced age of King Charles and Queen Camilla, both over 75.
