A rare bottle of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961, produced for the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, will be sold on 11 December in Lyngby, near Copenhagen.

Champagne from Charles and Diana’s wedding, absolutely unique, will be auctioned on Thursday 11 December by the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen. The champagne, a limited edition Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961, was produced especially for the wedding of the future King Charles III and Lady Diana Spencer, celebrated on 29 July 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, with a lavish reception at Buckingham Palace.

The bottles were disgorged in the same year and bear a label commemorating the ceremony. The estimate for the live sale in Lyngby, near Copenhagen, is between €67,000 and €80,000.

Champagne from Charles and Diana’s wedding: a rare piece of royal history

‘Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 is one of the brand’s most sought-after vintages,’ explains Thomas Rosendahl, head of Bruun Rasmussen’s wine department. ‘This special edition was produced in extremely limited quantities for the official celebrations and a select few guests at the royal wedding. It is a champagne created for a historic occasion, which makes it extraordinarily rare and a unique piece of cultural history.’

Rosendahl anticipates great international interest: wine collectors and royal memorabilia enthusiasts are likely to compete for the bottle, which symbolises not only a prestigious vintage of Dom Pérignon, but also an iconic moment in British history.
