The legendary London venue, frequented by Diana, Sinatra and Leonardo DiCaprio, excludes the former Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson after years of favourable treatment

Annabel’s London, one of the most exclusive clubs in the British capital, has officially cut Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson off. The brother of King Charles and his ex-wife, who were never formal members of the club, had until now enjoyed special treatment that allowed them free access without paying the annual fee of €4,250.

According to a source close to the club who spoke to the Daily Mail, if Andrew and Sarah were to show up at the door today, “they would be turned away; their notoriety is not what the club needs”. The move marks a clear change in the management of the legendary Mayfair venue, known for welcoming guests such as Princess Diana, Mick Jagger, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra and Leonardo DiCaprio.

A surprising ban

The ban could lead to awkward situations, given that the couple’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are full members and therefore authorised to invite guests. Their parents would no longer be guaranteed entry when accompanied by their daughters.

Historical ties to the club

Andrea had historical ties to Annabel’s London: he planned his stag party here in 1986, which was then postponed at the last minute due to media presence, while in 1990 he celebrated his 30th birthday there. In the past, however, the strict dress code had already caused problems: he was once sent away for turning up in an open-necked shirt and jeans.

The club, which has always been a symbol of exclusivity and glamour, is thus reinforcing its selective admission policy, confirming that even royal fame does not guarantee permanent privileges within the walls of Annabel’s London.
