Tragedy in the United States, explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems military plant near Nashville
A devastating explosion in Tennessee occurred today, Friday, October 10, at a military explosives factory in Tennessee, causing several deaths and missing persons. The accident occurred this morning at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant in McEwen, a town located about 50 miles from Nashville.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis reported that there are “several fatalities” and several people are still missing. Hickman County Mayor Jim Bates told ABC News that at least 13 people are unaccounted for.
The explosion completely destroyed one of the plant’s main buildings, causing a huge fire and a column of smoke visible for miles around. Numerous rescue teams and special chemical hazard units responded to the scene.
Investigations are currently underway by local police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and federal agencies ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) and Homeland Security, who are trying to clarify the causes of the accident.
Accurate Energetic Systems, a company specializing in the production of military explosives and pyrotechnic materials, has been involved in minor accidents in the past. At this time, no hypothesis regarding the cause of the detonation has been ruled out.
