Following attacks against the Israeli army in the West Bank, Katz announces firm measures, while Netanyahu condemns the violence, emphasising that it is the work of a marginal minority
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has announced an “urgent meeting” with security officials, convened today to discuss attacks by settlers against the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in the West Bank.
“This phenomenon must be stopped immediately. We will take all necessary measures and completely eradicate this violence. No one will dare to raise their hands against IDF soldiers and members of the security forces,” Katz said in an official statement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the latest violence, which includes the burning of a military installation, damage to IDF property and attacks on security personnel by Israeli citizens. ‘No civilised country can tolerate such violent and anarchic acts,’ Netanyahu said, calling on law enforcement to investigate the incident and prosecute those responsible.
At the same time, the prime minister wanted to make it clear that the perpetrators of such incidents represent a ‘marginal minority’ and that ‘the settler community is a model.’ ‘We will not allow a few violent and fanatical individuals to tarnish an entire community,’ he concluded.
