Israeli forces strike military bases in Palmyra and T4 as preparations intensify for a possible ground offensive on Gaza. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthis claim a rocket attack on Israel

New Israeli operations in Syria, in the central part of the Arab country, today 25 March. This is confirmed by reports released by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), which specify that they have struck ‘remaining military capabilities in the military bases of Tadmur (Palmyra) and T4’, an airbase located about 50 kilometres west of Palmyra. ‘The IDF continues to operate to remove any threat to Israeli citizens,’ they reiterate through X, following operations in the same areas in recent days.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army has asked residents of the Jabaliya area in the north of the Gaza Strip to evacuate their homes in view of an imminent airstrike. ‘To all those in the Jabaliya area, this is a warning before an attack. Terrorist organisations are again returning and firing rockets from populated areas. For your safety, head south immediately to known shelters,’ Israeli Arabic-language military spokesman Avichay Adraee said on X. Similar warnings were also issued for the northern towns of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun.

According to CNN sources, Israel is planning a new large-scale ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, which could involve the deployment of tens of thousands of soldiers to take control of large areas of the Palestinian enclave. A potential large-scale offensive is one of the possible scenarios the Israeli government is considering, stepping up its attacks on Gaza and trying to pressure Hamas to release all hostages, thus avoiding the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. Leaking news of a possible new ground offensive would be part of the Israeli strategy to exert pressure.

‘If there are no new hostage negotiations, the only alternative is to resume fighting,’ Eyal Hulata, former head of Israel’s national security council, told CNN. ‘And there are serious plans.’ The large-scale offensive, according to sources, could involve up to five Israeli divisions, amounting to about 50,000 soldiers. Cnn also noted that the Israeli army has already begun preparing for large-scale ground operations, retaking control of half of the Netzarim corridor, which divides the Gaza Strip.

In parallel to the clashes between Israel and Hamas, Yemen’s Houthis claimed the launch of two ballistic missiles against Israel. ‘The missile force, in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their courageous resistance, hit Ben Gurion Airport with two ballistic missiles. The operation successfully achieved its goal,’ the Houthis said. The group also claimed to have attacked the US military in response to US military aggression.
