The US president focuses on sending food aid, while Netanyahu accelerates the annexation of the enclave. Tensions within the Israeli army are growing

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump will not oppose the possibility of Israel’s full occupation of the Gaza Strip. ‘It will largely depend on Israel,’ he said, referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to take full control of the Palestinian enclave. The proposal will be submitted to the Israeli government for approval by the end of the week, despite fears for the fate of hostages still in unconquered areas.

Rather than opposing the new military expansion, Trump preferred to focus on the ongoing humanitarian emergency: ‘My goal is to feed the people of Gaza, who are obviously not doing very well with food.’ He added that Israel will collaborate in distribution and funding, together with the Arab states.

Clash at the top of the Israeli military: Katz defends Zamir

Meanwhile, in Israel, an institutional clash is unfolding. Defence Minister Israel Katz has publicly defended the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, who was attacked in a post on X by Yair Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s son, who accused him of being part of a “rebellion” and an “attempted military coup”.

Katz recalled that he had personally recommended Zamir, highlighting his skills, experience and leadership demonstrated over the past five months. ‘The IDF is operating forcefully in Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, Gaza and elsewhere, and has led a victorious attack against Iran,’ the minister said. He then reiterated that the head of the armed forces has a duty to express his views in official forums and that it is up to the government to make the final decisions, which the armed forces will implement.

Zamir proposes new phases for Gaza: possible pause if negotiations resume

Just yesterday, Zamir presented Netanyahu with plans for a gradual expansion of the offensive on Gaza. Among the options is the possibility of temporarily suspending operations in the event of a resumption of negotiations on the hostages, an increasingly urgent issue, also in diplomatic terms.

Gaza, more deaths from starvation. 20 victims in stampede for aid

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening. According to the Civil Defence, 20 people died and dozens were injured after a truck loaded with aid overturned on the crowd during the night in the central area of Nusseirat. According to spokesman Mahmoud Bassal, the vehicle was forced to travel on roads bombed and left in poor condition by the Israeli army.

In the last 24 hours, five more people, including children, are reported to have died of hunger and malnutrition. According to data from the Hamas Ministry of Health, 193 people have now died of malnutrition in the Strip, including 96 children.
