Elon Musk prepares to bid farewell to Trump administration
Tesla CEO confirms step down during Cabinet meeting: ‘It was an honour’
Elon Musk is nearing the end of his time at President Donald Trump’s side. This was confirmed, indirectly, by the founder of Tesla and SpaceX himself during the Cabinet meeting held yesterday at the White House. Musk declared that ‘it has been an honour’ to be part of the administration, reiterating his intention – already announced in recent weeks – to return to focus on his own business.
Trump, addressing the gathering, publicly praised Musk for his contribution: ‘You have been treated unfairly, but most Americans respect and appreciate you. You have been a great help.’ The president then joked, ‘At some point you’re going to want to go home to your cars,’ as the Cabinet applauded the billionaire.
Musk claimed to have reduced federal spending by $160 billion, a far cry from the $2 trillion he had targeted, but still relevant according to the Administration. During the meeting, he wore two overlapping Trump-branded hats: one with the words ‘Gulf of America’ and the other with ‘Doge’, the name of the Government Efficiency Department he led.
‘I love the double hat,’ Trump said with a smile. Musk replied wryly, ‘You know, they say I wear a lot of hats,’ amid laughter from those present.
