Hamas hands over 4 hostage bodies: Israel releases hundreds of Palestinian detainees
Exchange of bodies and prisoners between Israel and Hamas: tension grows over negotiations on second phase of ceasefire agreement
Overnight, Hamas handed over to Israel the bodies of four hostages who were kidnapped during the Oct. 7, 2023 attack. Israeli authorities simultaneously released hundreds of Palestinian detainees. The bodies, transported to the Tel Aviv Institute of Forensic Medicine, were identified as Shlomo Mantzur, 85, Ohad Yahalomi, 50 at the time of death, Itzhak Elgarat, 68, and Tsachi Idan.
Hamas said the release of the remaining hostages in the Gaza Strip depends on Israel’s compliance with the cease-fire agreement. The group reiterated its commitment to the understanding and readiness to negotiate a second phase of the agreement, warning that any attempts by the Israeli government to withdraw from the agreement would result in further suffering.
Finally, Hamas urged the mediators to pressure Israel to comply with the agreed terms and called on the international community to end the “double standard” regarding prisoners.
