Netanyahu: ‘With Trump as president, the massacre of 7 October would not have happened’
The Israeli prime minister comments on the US response to the Hamas attack in 2023
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the Hamas attack in southern Israel on 7 October 2023 ‘probably would not have happened’ if Donald Trump had been in the White House. In an interview with Patrick Bet-David’s podcast, Netanyahu explained that under Trump, Iran would have been more cautious in its moves in the region.
Netanyahu also praised the former US president for his firm stance towards the International Criminal Court, noting that Trump ‘gets straight to the point’ with targeted sanctions against officials of the institution.
On the role of the Biden administration, the Israeli prime minister recalled the initial friction: according to him, Washington had threatened an arms embargo and advised Israel against entering Rafah in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu said he had reiterated Israel’s determination to ‘defend the country by any means necessary’.
Despite the initial tensions, the Prime Minister acknowledged that Biden provided immediate support to Israel after the Hamas attack. However, Netanyahu pointed out that, during the conflict, political support was accompanied by international media coverage which, in his view, contributed to criticism of the Jewish state.
