Attack outside a church and Catholic school: 12 injured
The man who opened fire yesterday outside Annunciation Church and the adjacent Catholic school in Minneapolis, killing two children and injuring at least a dozen people, has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman.
The identity of the killer
According to local news reports, Westman grew up in Richfield, Minnesota, and his mother worked at Annunciation School, the scene of the shooting. After firing several shots, the 23-year-old took his own life.
The name change
Court documents show that Westman had officially requested to change his name from Robert to Robin, a request filed in Dakota County and granted in January 2020. The news was confirmed by The Guardian, which had access to the records.
