As of 5 March you can apply for Eta, the digital permit required to enter the UK, which is valid for up to two years. Exceptions will be made for airport transits

From 2 April 2025, anyone wishing to travel to the UK will need to hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (Eta). An Eta is a digital permit that allows multiple entries for stays of up to six months within a two-year period, or until your passport expires. The application must be made online, via the Uk Eta app or on the Gov.uk website.

How to apply for Eta and how much it costs

Applying for Eta is a quick and easy process. Travellers need to provide their personal details, passport details, a digital photograph and answer a series of questions. The answer usually arrives within minutes, although it is recommended to apply at least three days in advance. The cost of the Eta is currently £10 (about EUR 12), but will be increased to £16 in the future.

Transit exemptions and refusals of Eta applications

The British government has granted a temporary exemption from the Eta requirement for transit passengers who do not pass through border control. In the event of an ETA refusal, it will be necessary to apply for a visa to enter the UK, as there is no right of appeal.
