The actor from Top Gun, Batman Forever and The Doors passed away from pneumonia
Val Kilmer, famous for his roles in iconic films such as Top Gun, Batman Forever and The Doors, has died at the age of 65. His daughter Mercedes confirmed to the New York Times that the cause of death was pneumonia. The actor had been battling throat cancer diagnosed in 2014, undergoing chemotherapy and surgery that had compromised his voice.
Born in Los Angeles on 31 December 1959, Kilmer was one of the youngest students admitted to the prestigious Juilliard School. After his theatrical debut, he established himself in films with Top Secret! and Real Genius, achieving fame with the role of Iceman in Top Gun (1986). His most memorable performances include Heat – The Challenge, The Saint, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and his transformation into Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991).
Kilmer was married to actress Joanne Whalley from 1988 to 1996, whom he met on the set of Willow. His passing marks the end of an era for Hollywood cinema.
