Strategic actions and diplomatic manoeuvres for regional security and likely news on the truce/hostage front in Gaza

The Israeli Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has ordered the occupation of the demilitarised buffer zone between Israel and Syria. The declared aim is to create a security zone free of strategic weapons and terrorist infrastructure. Israeli forces, for the first time since 1973, entered Syrian territory, occupying Mount Hermon and other strategic points. These operations respond to the risk that Syrian military assets could fall into the hands of extremist rebel groups.

Hamas proposes an agreement to free the hostages

Meanwhile, Hamas sent a list of hostages that could be freed in exchange for Palestinian detainees. These include Americans, the elderly and the sick. An Israeli delegation is expected in Cairo to discuss the terms. This initiative is part of the media and political negotiations for a truce in the Gaza Strip, where the humanitarian situation remains critical.

Israeli air raids and destabilisation in Syria

Over the weekend, Israel launched air strikes against Syrian military targets, preventing them from being used by extremist elements among the rebels. These operations are set in a context of rising tensions after the flight of Bashar al-Assad and the seizure of power by rebel groups.

The combination of military operations and diplomatic negotiations highlights Israel’s multi-layered approach to addressing regional challenges. The fall of the Assad regime has redrawn the geopolitical balance, requiring preventive actions against new threats.
