Navalny, tests confirm poisoning
Widow Yulia: ‘Two independent laboratories in different countries have found traces of toxins’
Foreign results – Julia Navalnaya announced on X that biological samples from her husband Alexei Navalny, transferred abroad after his death, were analysed in two laboratories in different countries. Both facilities, working independently, concluded that the Russian opposition leader died of poisoning. “These results are of public importance and must be made public. We all deserve to know the truth,” Navalnaya wrote.
Death in Siberia
Navalny, 47, was being held in the special regime penal colony in Kharp, in the Arctic region of Yamalo-Nenets, about 1,900 kilometres from Moscow. He was serving more than 30 years in prison and had been held in solitary confinement for 308 days. His death was announced on 16 February 2024: according to the official version, he felt ill during a walk and lost consciousness despite attempts to resuscitate him.
Investigations and suspicions
Opposition sources and independent media had already speculated that he had been slowly poisoned in the months leading up to his death. The new analyses reinforce suspicions of deliberate action, while the Russian authorities continue to maintain that he died of a sudden illness.
