Evo Morales under indictment: arrest warrant for child trafficking
Former Bolivian president accused of an affair with a minor in 2016, Prosecutor’s Office issues arrest warrant
An arrest warrant for child trafficking has been issued against former Bolivian president Evo Morales, who ruled the country from 2006 to 2019. Prosecutors accuse him of having an affair with a 15-year-old girl in 2016, from which a daughter was allegedly born. The decision was announced by Prosecutor Sandra Gutierrez during a press conference, in which she emphasised the seriousness of the case: ‘It is appropriate to issue an arrest warrant’.
The charge of child trafficking, if confirmed, could have serious consequences for Morales, a prominent political figure in Bolivia and the Latin American region. The former president has not yet made an official statement on the charge. The affair is bound to deeply shake the Bolivian political landscape.
