Acting President al-Sharaa announces the formation of the new government, with the confirmation of key ministries and the entry of a woman

Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has announced the formation of a new government in Damascus, with the aim of ‘building a strong and stable state’. Key ministries, including Foreign, Defence and Interior, were confirmed in the hands of the current holders.

A significant change in the new governmental structure is the entry of Hind Kabawat, who was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Labour. Kabawat, a Christian and opponent of deposed President Bashar al-Assad, was involved in the preparatory committee for the ‘national dialogue conference’ held in February, a sign of a possible attempt at political openness within the country.
