The humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens with the winter cold. Five Palestinian journalists killed in an Israeli attack, while infants die due to extreme temperatures and lack of adequate shelter
Israeli attacks continue on the Gaza Strip, where the winter emergency is making the situation increasingly dire for displaced Palestinians. This morning, Palestinian TV station Al-Quds Today confirmed the deaths of five of its journalists in an Israeli air raid on the Nusseirat refugee camp. Journalists Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan, Ayman Al-Jadi, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Khalil, Fadi Hassouna and Mohammed Al-Lada’a were killed while carrying out their work near Al-Awda Hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that a missile fired from an Israeli aircraft directly hit the vehicle used by the news team for broadcasting, causing the immediate death of the five members of the station.
Earlier in the day, a baby girl froze to death in the displaced persons’ camp in Al-Mawasi, in the south of the Gaza Strip. Sela Mahmoud Al-Fasih, only a few months old, died due to the low temperatures and lack of adequate clothes and blankets. Two other newborn girls have died in the past 48 hours from the same causes, exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Al-Mawasi camp, once considered a humanitarian area, has repeatedly been the target of Israeli attacks. Thousands of displaced Palestinians live in makeshift tents and lack adequate shelters to face the winter cold.
Since the beginning of Israeli attacks, which followed the Oct. 7 Hamas offensive, more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed and 107,000 wounded, the Gaza Health Ministry reported. The offensive hit Gaza neighborhoods hard, leaving behind a trail of destruction and a worsening humanitarian crisis, with a growing food and health emergency.
