Five devices placed on buses and trains were to explode simultaneously. Security forces averted a large-scale disaster. Hamas claimed the operation

Today, three empty buses exploded in the suburbs of Bat Yam and Holon, near Tel Aviv, following a coordinated attack that could have caused a massacre. According to the Israeli media, five explosive devices with timers had been placed on public vehicles, but fortunately only three of them exploded, while the others were defused in time. The bombers had planned to activate the devices simultaneously during tomorrow’s rush hour, in what was described by Channel 12 as a ‘strategic terrorist attack’. No injuries or casualties were reported thanks to the timely evacuation of vehicles in the car parks.

Israeli security forces, under the direction of Transport Minister Miri Regev, launched a massive operation to search buses, trains and subways across the country. Police spokesperson Aryeh Doron urged the population to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects, while police continue to comb the surrounding areas.

A Telegram channel linked to Hamas’ Tulkarem Battalion, based in the West Bank, claimed the attack, stating: “The revenge of the martyrs will not be forgotten as long as the occupier is present on our land”. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), on the orders of Defence Minister Israel Katz, intensified operations in the West Bank, with a focus on the Tulkarem refugee camp, considered a stronghold of terrorist groups.

The IDF launched Operation Iron Wall on 21 January with the aim of dismantling terrorist infrastructure in the region.
