Italian tennis player agreed to a three-month disqualification for anti-doping rule violation. The agreement with WADA closes the proceedings before the TAS decision
Jannik Sinner, the Italian tennis player, has been disqualified for three months following the Clostebol banned substance case that saw him test positive last March. WADA reported that Sinner reached a settlement before the final ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which was scheduled for April 16-17. Under this agreement, the player accepted the sanction of a three-month suspension for anti-doping violations.
In an official statement, Sinner said, “This matter had been nagging at me for almost a year, and the process could have gone on for much longer. I have always accepted responsibility for my team and recognize that WADA’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love. I therefore decided to resolve the situation with a three-month sanction.”
WADA confirmed that the athlete accepted the outcome of the resolution, claiming that she had no intention to cheat. According to the agency, his exposure to Clostebol was caused by negligence on the part of his entourage, but did not result in any advantage in his performance.
Sinner’s period of ineligibility is set from Feb. 9, 2025 to May 4, 2025, with the possibility of returning to official training from April 13, 2025. WADA withdrew its appeal to TAS after reaching an agreement with the International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Integrity Agency, which did not challenge the first instance decision.
This agreement concludes the lengthy proceedings, but the case still marked a setback in the young Italian tennis talent’s career.
