The nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel resigns after the release of chats containing insults against Martin Luther King, supremacist comments and anti-Semitic statements

Paul Ingrassia, Donald Trump’s nominee to head the Office of Special Counsel, has announced the withdrawal of his nomination after the release of chats in which he described himself as having “a Nazi streak” and made supremacist and racist comments. Senate confirmation was scheduled for tomorrow, but Ingrassia admitted he did not have enough Republican votes.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune had called for the withdrawal of the nomination, arguing that ‘it would not pass,’ and at least three other Republican senators had already said they would vote against it.

The chats revealed by Politico show statements by Ingrassia that include insults to Martin Luther King Jr., derogatory comments about African Americans, and openly racist attitudes towards Asians and other minorities. Among the most serious messages, Ingrassia wrote that MLK Jr.’s holiday ‘should be thrown into the seventh circle of hell’ and stated: ‘Never trust a Chinese or an Indian. Never.’

Paul Ingrassia also had ties to far-right figures such as Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate, reinforcing fears about his ideological positions. His withdrawal comes just hours before his confirmation hearing, confirming the growing pressure on Trump from Republican leadership in the Senate.
