The woman, a mother of three, had become a symbol of the fight against sex trafficking. She died at her home in Australia, the causes under investigation

Virginia Giuffre, the first of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims to have the courage to go public and also denounce Ghislaine Maxwell and Prince Andrew, has died by suicide at the age of 41. The tragedy occurred at her home in Australia, where she lived with her husband Robert and their three children.

Family announcement
Giuffre’s family announced the news with words of deep sorrow, remembering her as a ‘fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse’. A constant commitment that, however, came at a very high price: ‘The weight of the violence she suffered became unbearable’, her family explained, ‘and that is why she lost her life by committing suicide’.

Born in the USA, Virginia had long settled in North Perth, Western Australia, where she was trying to rebuild her life with her family.

Ongoing investigation
According to BBC reports, Australian police intervened at a house in Neergabby on Friday evening, finding Giuffre unconscious. Major Crime investigators are conducting inquiries, but initial findings indicate that the death is not suspicious.

The car accident and the dramatic announcement on social media
Only three weeks ago, Giuffre had published a post on Instagram that alarmed her followers. She recounted that she had been the victim of a serious car accident: a bus had hit her while she was in her car, causing her very serious injuries. She had shared a photo showing her on a hospital bed, her body covered in bruises, explaining that she had gone into renal failure and had only a few days to live, after being transferred to a hospital specialising in urology.

The dramatic deterioration of her physical condition and the weight of psychological wounds that had never fully healed seem to have contributed to the tragic epilogue.

Virginia Giuffre leaves an important legacy in the battle against human trafficking and sexual abuse, a courage that has paved the way for many other voices in denouncing injustice and violence.
