The former retired general will take over from Herzi Halevi on 6 March

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have chosen Eyal Zamir as the next chief of staff of the IDF. The former retired general will succeed Herzi Halevi, who will leave the post on 6 March.

The appointment was made official by the premier’s office, confirming rumours of a possible change at the top of the Israeli armed forces. Zamir, former deputy chief of staff, is considered an experienced military man close to the current political leadership.
