Analysis Underway to Determine Causes of Disaster

The two black boxes of the passenger plane involved in the collision with a military helicopter in the skies over Washington have been recovered in the waters of the Potomac River. Investigators from the American Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are now analysing the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder to reconstruct the dynamics of the disaster. The preliminary report is expected within 30 days, but at the moment there is insufficient evidence to determine the cause of the crash, the most serious in the US in more than 20 years.

New details are emerging about the victims of the crash. The Chinese Embassy in the US has confirmed that two Chinese nationals were on board the crashed flight. The Russian victims include former world figure skating champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, as well as former Soviet skater Inna Volyanskaya, all of whom were coaches in the United States.

Previous Accidents and Flight Safety

Only 24 hours before the accident, another aircraft had had to perform an emergency manoeuvre to avoid a helicopter close to its flight path, as revealed by the Washington Post. This raises questions about the safety of air traffic in the area and the need for preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.

Official condolences

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed official condolences to the families of the victims and the entire American nation, emphasising the seriousness of the accident and the loss of life.
