North Korea unveils Hwasong-20 missile during military parade VIDEO
Kim Jong-un praises armed forces and unveils new Hwasong-20 intercontinental missile
In its first major military parade in two years, North Korea unveiled the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile, described by the KCNA news agency as “the most powerful strategic nuclear weapon system”. The event took place in Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un urged the armed forces to become an “invincible” entity capable of “destroying all threats”. During the parade, in addition to the Hwasong-20 missile – with a range sufficient to reach targets in the United States – hypersonic missiles and other advanced weapon systems were also presented.
The event was attended by prominent international delegates, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam. In his speech, Kim praised the ‘heroic fighting spirit’ and ‘victory’ of the armed forces on foreign battlefields, arguing that these successes are in favour of international justice and true peace.
