New talks for a possible pause in hostilities as violence continues in the West Bank and Gaza

Hamas may release some hostages in exchange for a temporary truce on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. According to Israeli radio station Kan and Tass, the operation could also include the release of Edan Alexander, an Israeli soldier with American citizenship, along with other prisoners. The sources said that the militant group would need a brief ceasefire to quell the protests that continue to rage in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the violence does not stop in the West Bank. Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Jinba, in the Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron, injuring six residents. Four of them were rushed to hospital, with two admitted for surgery due to the severity of their injuries, including a 15-year-old boy, who is now in intensive care. After the incident, Israeli soldiers arrested over 20 men from the Palestinian village.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israeli shelling, which resumed on 18 March, killed 921 people in the Strip. In the last 24 hours, 25 new deaths have been recorded. Since 7 October 2023, when the conflict began, the total Palestinian death toll has risen to 50,277, according to figures provided by the ministry.

The situation remains critical, with the international community continuing to call for a ceasefire and diplomatic solutions to stop the conflict that is causing an ever-increasing number of casualties among Israelis and Palestinians.
