New IDF airstrike against a humanitarian area in Gaza: three children and two Palestinian police generals among the victims

An Israeli Air Force raid struck the al-Mawasi area, near Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip at dawn, killing 11 displaced Palestinians, including three children. The victims were seeking shelter in tents set up in an area considered humanitarian. The news was spread by the pro-Hamas newspaper ‘Filastin’, which reported the statements of the rescuers. The dead also include two senior officers of the Gaza police: General Mahmoud Salah, the police director, and his deputy, Brigadier General Husam Mustafa Shahwan.

Hezbollah and its ‘legendary resistance’

Meanwhile, the leader of the Lebanese militia party Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, said that since the ceasefire with Israel, which came into effect on 27 November, the group has ‘regained its health’ and strengthened. In a televised speech, Qassem said that Hezbollah would continue to support the resistance, referring to the fight against Israel as an opportunity to demonstrate the political strength of the Lebanese state.

Ceasefire in Lebanon and the political crisis

Hezbollah, according to Qassem, has begun to respect the ceasefire, but has left the responsibility of monitoring it to the Lebanese state until Israel withdraws its troops from Lebanon. The Shia leader then discussed the internal political crisis, reiterating the need to elect a president after more than two years of stalemate, and to initiate reforms to get the country’s institutions back on track. Qassem described the resistance in support of the Gaza Strip as ‘legendary’ and stressed the importance of drawing lessons from recent events to further strengthen Hezbollah.
