Texas, devastating floods: 109 dead and 161 missing. Abbott: “We will not stop”.

The governor promises maximum commitment to search operations. The priority remains to locate those reported missing by family members and neighbours

At least 109 people have been confirmed dead and 161 are still missing following the violent floods that hit Texas. Governor Greg Abbott announced this during a press conference, emphasising that the number of missing persons could rise: ‘We will most likely be adding to this list,’ he said, explaining that the toll is based on reports from friends, relatives and neighbours.

‘Our main task at this time remains to locate every person affected by this tragedy. We will not stop until every single missing person is found,’ Abbott added, promising full support to the communities involved.

The governor visited the most affected areas to assess first-hand the logistical and material needs of the population. Rescuers continue to work tirelessly among the rubble and flooded areas, in a race against time to save lives and bring aid.

The weather situation remains critical and the authorities are urging people to exercise extreme caution. Numerous temporary shelters for displaced persons remain open.
