Zelensky criticises the US: ‘They want to please Putin’
Ukrainian president judges European defence capability ‘weak’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has voiced strong criticism of the United States, accusing it of wanting to please Russian President Vladimir Putin. In an interview broadcast by German public broadcaster ARD, Zelensky said that some statements coming from Washington seem to be made to pander to Moscow.
‘The problem is that the United States today says things that are very pleasing to Putin. I think that’s where the problem lies. Because they want to please him,’ Zelensky said, referring to what he perceives as an overly accommodating US policy towards Russia.
Zelensky also criticised Europe’s defence capability, describing it as ‘weak’ in terms of troops, fleet, air force and drones, highlighting the need for a strengthening of European security.
