Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States, reiterated his admiration for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during an interview with Class Cnbc on the New York Stock Exchange. ‘She’s fantastic, she’s a leader and a great person,’ Trump said, confirming his intention to work with her. ‘I love Italy,’ he added, responding to a question about his view of relations with the country.

The statements of esteem follow a meeting between Trump and Meloni held in Paris, on the sidelines of a reception for the reopening of Notre Dame. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Trump called the meeting ‘great’ and praised the Italian leader’s energy. ‘We got along great,’ he declared.

Meloni thanks Trump on social media

Giorgia Meloni responded to Trump’s compliments by sharing the video of the interview on social media and thanking him for the ‘nice words’. On X and Facebook, the Italian premier emphasised her good relationship with the US president-elect.

Tilman Fertitta possible ambassador to Italy

Meanwhile, American media report that Tilman Fertitta, billionaire and owner of the Houston Rockets, could be appointed ambassador to Italy. Fertitta, a friend of Trump and Republican supporter, is the CEO of Landry’s Ic, a company active in the hospitality sector, with assets estimated at $8.4 billion. Of Sicilian descent, Fertitta was present with Trump and Elon Musk at the launch of the Starship rocket in Texas last November.
