The war in Gaza and the conflict with Iran are not sufficient grounds to postpone the hearings. The prime minister will have to appear in court

The Jerusalem court has rejected the request to suspend the corruption trial against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, deeming the reasons related to the war in Gaza and the recent conflict with Iran insufficient. According to N12, Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman accepted the prosecution’s position, ruling that no detailed or valid explanation had been provided to justify the postponement or the defendant’s failure to appear.

Netanyahu has been on trial for years in three separate cases in which he is accused of corruption, fraud and breach of trust. In one of these, the prime minister and his wife Sara Netanyahu are accused of receiving luxury gifts worth around €250,000, including cigars, champagne and jewellery, in exchange for political favours to well-known billionaires. In the other two cases, Netanyahu is suspected of attempting to make secret deals with publishers to obtain more favourable media coverage in influential newspapers.

The legal proceedings, which have been moving slowly for some time, will therefore not be interrupted, even at a time of high political and military tension. The court has confirmed the upcoming hearings, forcing the prime minister to continue his defence in court.
